The brief
Electricity is the second-largest line item on the operating budget and the only information available is a single monthly total. Management cannot tell whether compressed air, HVAC or process load is driving the cost, and a proposed solar installation has been sized off roof area rather than demand.
Scope of works
What Powerline does.
- Electrical
- HVAC
- Metering
- Baseline energy audit with load profiling across the main incomer
- Sub-metering installed per department and per major plant item
- Real-time monitoring with monthly performance reporting
- Identification of energy-intensive processes and standing losses
- Prioritised savings register — lighting, HVAC scheduling, control tuning
- Renewable sizing based on measured demand rather than available roof area

Reporting
What gets measured and handed back.
Metric names only. The values belong to a real building, and this is not one.
- Consumption baseline
- Established over a minimum of one full billing cycle before any conclusion is drawn.
- kWh attributable
- Share of total consumption that can be assigned to a specific system.
- Savings register
- Each intervention with indicative cost, expected saving and payback period.
- Renewable sizing
- System sized against measured demand, avoiding both under- and over-specification.
Compliance
Standards this scope answers to.
- SANS 50001 principles
- SANS 1544 — Energy Performance Certificates
- SANS 10142-1 for associated electrical work
Other scopes
Different building, same discipline.
